Karl Burman Jr. (1914–2001) came from a well-known family of artists. His father Karl Burman (1882–1965) was one of the most esteemed architects in Estonia, but also a watercolourist. Uncle Paul Burman (1888-1934) was a well-known Impressionist landscape painter, as well as a highly regarded depictor of animals and still lifes.In the second half of the 1930s, Karl Burman Jr. studied architecture at the Technical Department of the University of Tartu and the Tallinn Institute of Technology. He also received art education from his father Karl Burman senior and uncle Paul Burman, later he continued his education at the Moscow Art Institute. In the history of art, Burman Jr. has been written mainly as a watercolourist, acting mainly as a freelance artist who captured cityscapes from his enthusiastic interest in architecture. 1950s-1970s In the 1990s he was one of the most prominent watercolourists who knew the specifics of the technique.The renowned watercolour virtuoso received his first art lessons from his father Karl Burman the Elder and his uncle. Karl Burman the Younger was one of the organizers of the Union of Estonian Artists in Yaroslavl in 1943.
