Aksel Eist, member of the Tartu Union of Artists, whose life is connected with two vocations: painting and medicine. Axel Eist was born on September 18, 1930 in Paide. After graduating from Kehra High School, he studied medicine at the University of Tartu from 1957 to 1963 and then worked as a psychiatrist in Tartu. In parallel with his studies at the university, he studied painting at the school-workshop of Erich Arrak. Axel Eist has been performing at general exhibitions since 1965. Several solo exhibitions of his work were held in Tartu and Tallinn, as well as in Finland. Member of the Estonian Artists’ Union since 1989. Landscapes, still lifes and portraits are based on pastel colors.

Axel Eist’s works are in art collections in Estonia and Tartu, as well as in private collections in several foreign countries. Their creator was able to provide support as a doctor, and his paintings instill a calm wholeness.
