Johann Adolf Hoeffler was among the Frankfurt and Kronberg painters particulary close to Burger and Burnitz. He received a profound education at the Städel Institute as well as at the Munich and Düsseldorf Art Academies.
Hoeffler however felt wanderlust and spent the years between 1848 and 1853 travelling to North America and Cuba. He brought back many drawings and oil studies before he finally returned home and, from the 1860’s onwards, concentrated on landscape motifs in the surroundings of Frankfurt.
