The date is based on the artist’s sketches for the 1947 Grandfather’s “Oath mosaic “, made on the same paper, in the same format, in the same style and technique. The opera “Eugene Onegin” was staged several times in Estonia in the post-war years.
Valli Lember-Bogatkina is one of the most famous Estonian watercolorists, as well as one of the most prominent artists of decorative and monumental painting.
Valli Lember-Bogatkina graduated from the State School of Art and Design in 1940 under Roman Nyman, Erik Haamer and August Jansen with a degree in decorative and monumental painting.
From 1940 to 1941 she worked for the architect Meyer as an interior designer, mainly painting imitations of glass and mosaics. In 1941 she continued her studies at the Tallinn Art University, while working for the decorator Voldemar Haas at the Estonian Theater and as a decorator at Plaza Variety. In 1942, at the invitation of the sculptor Anton Starkopf, she entered the Higher Courses of Fine Arts in Tartu. In the same place, Lember-Bogatkina performed for the first time with her watercolors, at the autumn exhibition.
In 1943 she returned to Tallinn, where she began working at the Applied Art Studio.
Member of the Union of Artists since 1944. In 1949 she married the artist Vladimir Bogatkin.
