Afanassi Sheloumoff was born August 17, 1892 in Khersonskaya province of Ukraine.
He is well-known in Europe Russian battle painter. After graduating from high school he joined the Odessa Art School, later – the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, N. Samokishi battle painting class. 1914 – the First World War interrupted his teaching and the painter went at the front as a battle soldiers, later – an officer and then he joined the Volunteer Army. 1920 – the artist with the White army emigrated to Turkey, then to Serbia, where a few years he had been working as a painter. Soon his paintings were known and – bought by different museums and private collectors. A representative of Russian Art exhibition in Belgrade in 1930 exhibited Sheloumoff`s “General Wrangel in the battle against the German batteries”. It was a very professional and high standart painting.
In 1941 the artist interrupted the career and went to Balkans together with the Russian Army, then was Yugoslavia and later he moved to the suburb of Munich, where he continued painting. He also painted for the Russian Serbian Cavalry Museum, then – in USA. 1979, in Maracay, Venesuela, his personal exhibition works got a very high assessment. All of them were high artistic level paintings – declared the majority of the citizens. Fantastically large number of visitors had visited the last one.
The 85 artist`s birthday was hold in Munich in 1977
His works are today in Yugoslavia, Germany and USA museums.
Sheloumoff died 25-th January 1983 Shtarenberge, in Germany.
