The cultural and otherwise informative maps of Estonia, made by the graphic artist Olev Soans, were extremely popular in the 1980s, when they found their way onto the walls of numerous homes in Estonia. At a stroke, the artist managed to convey an enormous amount of cultural history while keeping this burst of information from becoming too hard to read.
In 1985 the artist has received premium Kristjan Raud for a series of maps. The artist has added some maps a watercolour.
Olev Soans has ended the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, since 1961 taught, in the same place, in 1979 has received a rank of the senior lecturer, in 1987 of the professor.
